Privacy and Cookie Guide
Cookie Consent at BetBooker: Banner, Preferences and Withdrawal
Consent is the part of cookie rules that players touch most often, through a banner that appears on the first visit. This page explains what the banner means, what each button does, how BetBooker records your decision and how to change it later. It also describes the legal ideas behind consent in Ghana, so that you can see why some cookies are set without asking while others wait for your agreement.
Why Consent Is Needed
The Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) requires that personal data is processed lawfully, fairly and with the knowledge of the person concerned. Online identifiers placed by cookies can single out one browser or device, and many of them are linked to a profile. Consent gives the player a say in non-essential uses.
For BetBooker Ghana, valid consent has these features:
- Freely given. You can refuse optional cookies without losing access to betting, games or payments.
- Specific. You choose by category, not through a single vague statement.
- Informed. The banner and the settings explain the purposes in clear words and link to this policy.
- Active. Pre-ticked boxes are not used for optional categories. Silence, scrolling or continuing to browse does not count as consent.
- Reversible. You may withdraw it as easily as you gave it.
The Cookie Banner
On your first visit, and again if you clear cookies or if we change the categories, a banner appears at the bottom or centre of the screen. It offers three buttons.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Accept all | Allows functional, analytics and marketing cookies in addition to necessary ones |
| Reject non-essential | Allows only necessary cookies |
| Manage settings | Opens the preference centre, where you choose category by category |
The two main options have equal prominence, so that refusing is as easy as accepting. The banner does not block access to the site content, and it does not prevent you from reading the terms or the policies.
The Preference Centre
The preference centre shows each category with a short description, a switch and a list of the cookies in it.
- Strictly necessary. Always on, because the service depends on them. The list shows their names and purposes.
- Functional. Off until you switch it on.
- Analytics. Off until you switch it on.
- Marketing. Off until you switch it on.
After you choose, press Save settings. The choice applies at once. Cookies that you did not accept are not placed, and any that were set earlier in a category that you turned off are deleted from your device when the page reloads.
Changing Your Mind
You can reopen the preference centre at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer of every page. After betbooker login, the privacy section of your account also shows the current choices and the date on which you made them. The same options are present in the betbooker app, within the privacy menu, for the technologies that the app uses.
When you withdraw consent, new data from that category stops flowing. Data collected before the withdrawal remains lawful, and it is processed according to its retention period. If you want data deleted, you can send a request through the contact page.
How Long Your Choice Lasts
Your selection is stored for twelve months. After that time, or sooner if the list of cookies changes in a way that affects your choices, the banner appears again. Registered players may also see a reminder in the account when new categories or providers are added.
How We Record Consent
To show that consent was given, BetBooker stores:
- the date and time of the choice;
- the categories accepted and refused;
- the version of the cookie policy displayed;
- the identifier of the browser or, for signed-in players, of the account.
The record does not contain the content of your browsing. We keep it for as long as we need to show compliance, and we delete it when this need ends.
Legal Basis for Each Category
Consent is only one of the legal grounds in data protection law. The table shows which ground BetBooker uses for each group of cookies.
| Category | Legal basis | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Performance of the service and legitimate interest | Sign-in, bet slip, security and legal duties depend on them |
| Functional | Consent | They store convenience settings that you can live without |
| Analytics | Consent | They measure behaviour and are not needed to deliver the service |
| Marketing | Consent | They support advertising and measurement of campaigns |
Where we rely on legitimate interest, we balance our interest against your rights, we limit the data to what is needed and we give you a way to object through the contact page.
Three Example Choices
Ama wants the simplest experience.
She presses Accept all. The site remembers her odds format, shows her relevant offers and counts her visit in the statistics. She can change this later in the cookie settings.
Yaw wants minimal tracking.
He presses Reject non-essential. He can still sign in, bet and withdraw. The site shows default settings, and no analytics or marketing cookies are placed.
Efua wants a middle path.
She opens Manage settings, keeps functional cookies on so that the site remembers her language, switches analytics off and keeps marketing off. She presses Save settings, and the site follows each choice.
All three players have the same access to betting, to the betbooker casino and to responsible gambling tools.
How We Test Our Banner
A consent banner is only useful if it works as described. BetBooker Ghana checks the following points before each release of the website:
- Optional cookies are not set before the player agrees.
- The Reject button removes optional cookies already present.
- The withdrawal option in the footer opens on every page and on every supported browser.
- The text is available in clear English and fits on small phone screens.
- The banner does not cover the sign-in form or block navigation.
We also scan the live site at regular intervals and compare the cookies found with the approved list. Differences are investigated and corrected.
Consent and Young People
Cookies and registration are open only to persons aged 18 or older. If a younger person visits the public pages, the banner and the necessary cookies work in the same way, but they cannot register, and we do not direct marketing to them. Parents who find that a child has used a family device to browse betting sites can clear the cookies, install filters and use the controls described in the underage gambling policy.
Special Cases
- Players who are signed in. Your choice is linked to your account, so it can be applied on another device that you use to sign in. If you choose differently on that device, the most recent decision applies.
- Several people using one browser. The banner cannot tell users apart. If a family shares a phone, agree on one setting, or use separate browser profiles.
- Private browsing. Because cookies are removed at the end of a private session, the banner will return on the next visit.
- Blocked cookies. If your browser blocks all cookies, the site cannot remember your decision, and the banner may reappear on every page. Allow first-party cookies for BetBooker to stop this.
- Players on a time-out or self-exclusion. Marketing cookies are disabled for these accounts regardless of earlier choices.
Consent and Responsible Gambling
Some data uses connected with player protection do not rest on cookie consent. Reminders of the time you have spent, display of your limits and detection of risky patterns rely on necessary cookies and on our duty to protect players. They are not used for marketing. Marketing consent remains separate, and you can refuse it without any effect on your access to limits, time-outs or self-exclusion.
Consent for Newsletters Is Separate
Accepting cookies does not mean that you agreed to promotional emails or SMS messages, and agreeing to a newsletter does not allow marketing cookies. These choices are managed in different places. Cookie choices sit in the cookie settings. Messages are controlled in the communication preferences of your account. Our marketing policy describes the second group in detail.
Common Misunderstandings
“If I click Reject, the site will not work.”
The site works with necessary cookies only.
“Accepting cookies lets BetBooker see my other apps.”
Cookies from a website cannot read other apps or the content of your phone.
“Cookies change the odds.”
Odds and game results do not depend on cookies or on your consent choices.
“My choice is permanent.”
It lasts twelve months and can be changed at any time.
“Necessary cookies are a loophole.”
They are limited to functions that you request, such as signing in, holding your bet slip and securing your session. We do not classify analytics or advertising as necessary.
What Changes When You Accept or Reject
To make the effect clear, here is how a normal session differs. If you accept all, the website may display your name in a greeting, order the sports menu as you prefer, send page timing data to an analytics tool and measure whether an advert brought you to the site. If you reject non-essential cookies, the site uses default settings and sends nothing to analytics or advertising providers. In both cases the betting markets, the odds, the game results, the bonus terms and the responsible gambling tools are the same. Your choice affects convenience and measurement only, and never the fairness of the service.
Complaints and Supervision
If you think that a cookie was placed without valid consent, or that your withdrawal was ignored, tell us through the contact page. We investigate, correct the problem and reply in writing. You may also complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana, which supervises compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to accept cookies to register?
Registration requires necessary cookies only. Optional categories remain your choice.
What happens to my data if I withdraw consent?
We stop collecting data through that category, delete the related cookies from your device and do not use the data for new purposes.
Is it possible to accept analytics but refuse marketing?
Yes. Each category has its own switch.
Can BetBooker Ghana change my settings without asking?
No. If we add a new category or provider that needs consent, we ask again before we use it.
Does the app show the same banner?
The app has a privacy menu instead of a banner, because it does not use browser cookies in the same way.
Will refusing marketing cookies stop all BetBooker adverts?
No. It stops measurement and limits personalisation by BetBooker, but you may still see general adverts on other websites.
